A Grand Day Out

All ears

And the band played on

A study in concentration

We called it “Picnic in the Park”, it could have been “Fun in the Sun”, but whichever you prefer, everyone agreed it was “A Grand Day Out”.

The Skelmanthorpe Mini and Training Bands were in fine form. They certainly kept the audience entertained with a varied programme of music ranging from film scores such as Jurrasic Park, TV themes including Wallace and Gromit, and an energetic finale with Greased Lightening, from the musical Grease. There was also a nod to our regular dog walkers when the Mini Band gave a rendition of “How much is that Doggy in the Window”, Woof, Woof!

A Churchfield quiz added to the entertainment, and proved to be so popular that one of the local residents had to nip home and photocopy some extra copies. It was not surprising when you see the prize that was on offer:

It’s a Hedgehog!

Although the event was free, a raffle, cake stall and a collection did manage to raise a creditable £164 which will be shared equally by the Band and Friends of Churchfield to help both with ongoing costs. So thank you to everyone that contributed by buying tickets, cake, and making donations. A special thanks goes to those people that donated prizes and/or baked cakes for us.

As always one of the Friends of Churchfield had to just “blow his own trumpet” but the children kept him on the right track:

Tubby the Tuba!

He almost looks like he knows what he’s doing.

Finally, there are many ways to measure the success of an event such as, how much money does it raise?, how many people came?, how did the audience react?. We surpassed all our expectations and when the audience were asked “If we do this again next year, would you all come?” the answer was a very resounding “YES!”

That said it all…so we will see you all next time!
